AHC | Events Round Up
After enjoying the bank holiday and realising we only had a 4 day week, it was all systems go preparing to host 2 events at the Ball Lane Fortress and to take part in an offsite event.
Where do we start?
On Wednesday 30th August we battled the weather and got the clubs out for a day on the golf course for the AHC Golf Day hosted at the London Beach Hotel.
The day consisting of 18 holes, a light lunch, meal and prizes raised £700 for Ashford Hockey Club to which was thoroughly enjoyed by all those attending.

We will be looking to arrange another golf day so ensure you keep following us on Social Media.
On Thursday 31st August we “AHC” were proud to offer our facilities to the British Royal Legion as their annual ‘Pedal to Paris’ cycle ride arrived in the heart of Kennington just before gathering some speed down Ball Lane to the lunch stop welcomed by a little group with various musical items, claps and cheers.
On arrival, the riders had the opportunity to re-fuel through food and drink, grab a quick physio session for those niggles and even attend the “Bike Team” to adjust those chains and seats.
With over 150 riders sorted it was time for them to set off back up the hill (sorry riders!) and make their journey to Dover ready for the ferry to complete the course through Dunkirk, tomorrow (3rd September) cycling as one unit, they will finish at the world’s famous Arc de Triomphe and the only cycle ride, other than the Tour de France this famous landmark closes for.
..And the next event?
Saturday 2nd September saw our annual signing on day but with a new implementation by the way of a round robin tournament between 2 pool groups. With 100 players signed up, the weather signed up and the BBQ chefs in place, it was time for us to get going.
With the first 4 teams set, umpires set, central timer set, the 2017/18 season was officially started and you even had the chance to win some great prizes on the raffle.
Over the course of the day each team completed 4 games with the aim of ensuring they end up going home with that medal around their neck. Every playing member also had the token to receive an item of food from the BBQ which was excellently run by Andy and Cathie Elgar (thanks guys!).
On completion of all the games it was time to score up the points and announce the winner from each pool. The winner of Pool A was Team 1A captained by Ben Davis and the winner of Pool B was Team 2B captained by Ben Dawson. Congratulations to all those team members. The best sportsmanship team award went to Team 1B led by Becky Hover.
Our extended thanks go to all those who umpired, bars and buffets, Flo and Claire and lastly Lewis Elgar for organising such a great day.
Well done all…..good luck for the season.
