M4 2021/22 End of Season Report

Men’s 4 P20 W10 D3 L7 GF40 GA47 GD+7 PTS 33 POS 4th
Another strong year for the 4th XI. We finished joint 4th with Blackheath and Eltham. We beat both Uni of Kent and Sutton Valence who finished first and third respectively. The only team to beat us home and away was Knole Park, where Duncan managed to score 13 goals over the two games. Ask Jack Taylor to talk you through those two games over a beer.

As always, we look to freshen up the team each season with youthful signings. This year was no exception with Seb Fryer, Lewis McLeod and Rory Mayes joining the squad. All three developed significantly over the season and the extent of their progress was on full show when we overcame a strong SV team in the last game of the season. What was also a delight was their attitude and commitment towards both training and matches. All three playing the vast majority of the fixtures. Well done boys.

Finally, this team likes to work and play hard. We don't let many weak goals in thanks to a really strong back three, but historically haven't scored too many either. That has changed a bit this season with a touch of Hilly stardust and a young Browning beginning to show signs of knowing where the net is. However, my champagne moment of the year goes to Tim Woodhouse, for 'that' roar on securing a nil - nil draw, away on a late January afternoon in Marden. It will live long in the memory and defines the team's spirit, commitment and determination.
