M5 2021/22 End of Season Report

Men’s Crusaders P22 W16 D2 L4 GF77 GA40 GD+37 PTS 50 POS 2nd
PROMOTED!
Ashford Men’s Crusaders enjoyed a successful season by finishing second (and earning promotion) in the South East Men’s Division 7 Invicta. Throughout the season the Crusaders exhibited skill, tenacity and team work. The juniors in the side impressed and showed great signs of progress.
In the end, Ashford’s closest competitor for promotion was fellow development side Folkestone Fledglings. The league winners were Newenden Nomads, who went the season unbeaten and racked up a goal difference of +123. Newenden were composed of mostly University aged players and would give Ashford 4s and 3s a good test. Hence, competition for the remaining promotion place was fierce.
Following the penultimate round of games, Folkestone and Ashford were level on points with Folkestone’s vastly superior goal difference leaving them in the driving seat. On the final day, Folkestone drew with Holcombe and Ashford had a 5-0 walk over win.
Most improved player: Cameron Montford
Cameron has shown consistent improvement across the 2021/22 season in all aspects of his game. This hasn’t been an accident; his attendance at training and availability for matches has been exemplary. This has resulted in better passing, tackling and overall game intelligence. Well Done, Cameron!

Player of the season: Paul Wilson
Paul Wilson has proven to be an invaluable player at the centre of midfield for the 5s. Of the two centre midfielders in the 5s formation, he is usually in the defensive role. His reading of the game and his reach means very few players or balls get past him. He is well thought of member of the team and gets on quietly with his role. Well Done, Paul!
