Ashford Ladies 2s started the match strong with possessive attacking routines and frequent accurate passes around the Blackheath defence, ensuring the ball remained in Ashford’s attacking half. After battling with Blackheath, Ashford won a well deserved short corner which kept team spirits high, unfortunately to no avail.
As the first half continued, Jo Thompson helped to maintain calm on the pitch from her position in libero, with Freya, Anna, Beth and Neave taking up the remaining defensive positions. Thanks to the persistent attacking from Izzy and Emma in forward positions Ashford were awarded a second short corner, Izzy’s positioning being key on the post to give Ashford a well deserved goal.

The second half for Ashford started with confidence and pressure on the Blackheath defence, with persistent attacks, however Blackheath managed to slip through into Ashford’s D and were awarded a short corner which led to their first goal bringing the score to 1-all. Soon after Blackheath gained a second goal, bringing the score to 2-1. Even with our heads low due to the score Ashford supported each other with midfield players Jessie, Kate, Chloe and Aoife providing options wide and into the attacking zone of the pitch preventing Blackheath from scoring any further. The ladies 2s held their positions strongly on the pitch and fought off any further attacks from Blackheath. A strong game with an unfortunate score from which we were congratulated by the umpire for our performance.
