Ashford HC 1XI Vs Maidstone HC 1XI
Ashford: 6, Maidstone: 2
Ashford travelled up the road for their final encounter against Maidstone for the season having won 4-2 in the last matchup. Having only lost one game so far in the second half of the season Ashford were keen to continue the run of good form.
It didn’t take long for Luke Wicken & Tom Lightfoot to get on the scoresheet with the former tidying up at the back post after a last ditch valiant effort from a Maidstone defender almost saving it off the line. The latter taking advantage of a quickly taken long corner to nutmeg the keeper with a powerful strike.
The goals continued to rack up after a short corner swiftly cleared effort from keeper Duir Forrest resulted in a cold and vicious counter attack leading to Rob Playford striking on target for a great overall team goal. Maidstone were left feeling despondent after having an opportunity on goal turned on their heads rapidly.
The second half continued strong for the Ashford side with another goal being put on the tally thanks to another powerful effort from Rob Playford. Shortly after Tom Lightfoot had charged into the circle with another powerful strike on target, this was promptly padded away by the keeper resulting in the ball bobbling in the air. The stars aligned & the ball was left floating in the air, served up to Luke Wicken on a plate. With the taste for goals still present Wicken quite frankly went nuclear with his volley striking the ball hard and flat into the netting.
However Maidstone were keen to counter at any opportunity, putting the Ashford keeper through his paces. Their efforts led them to score two goals however on the other end of the pitch carnage ensued. Lightfoot had bagged his second of the game ensuring Ashford’s win was signed sealed & delivered.
